Adriana Cerna - April 17, 2009

And the morning of April 17, 2009 arrived. We left Monica's house around 6:45 am on our way to Mercy hospital. One carry on, two computer bags, one camera bag and one video camera bag. Also we were doing the umbilical blood cord collection, so we needed to carry the box for the blood samples too.

We arrived at the hospital at 7:30 and I start getting prep'd for the first surgery of my life. The nurse was very nice and the whole experience was actually pretty easy and stress free considering it was my first time for an IV, Spinal anesthesia, etc etc etc.

I can say that the only moment that I freaked out was when I was lying down with my arms strapped to the operation table. Before and after it was relatively easy. No pain at all and the anesthesia was my best friend.

It only took a couple of minutes for Adriana to be taken out, she was born at 9:38 am. I was only able to see her for a couple of minutes in the OR. Tomas was great with me and her. He cut her umbilical cord and took some pictures and videos of Adriana's first moments of life.

Then I was sent to recovery area and Tomas went with Adriana for the check ups. For me, the recovery was pretty easy, no pain and I got my legs back to normal in a couple of hours.

Around 3pm is when Tomas, Adriana and I were finally together and getting to know each other as a family. My parents came to the room immediately to meet her. Tears of emotion came out of my dad!!! My mom could not stop carrying her (still cannot). Fer was also pretty excited.

The rest of the day was pretty good for us, we had her the whole day. Tomas got the job of diaper changer and pacifier right away and he is awesome with her. I wasn't in so much pain until early Saturday when the anesthesia run out of my system. Then I needed extra pain killers....

Adriana is a healthy baby that weighted 7 lbs 6 ounces (3.345 kgs) and was about 19 inches long. She has big cheeks - super cute!!! and long legs, which we knew but now we can see that. She also came out with a lot of hair, black beautiful hair.

Everything is good with us, we had our first day and night with her and enjoyed having her with us and learning everything - from changing diapers, to learning how to breastfeed.

Today was a great day too. We were able to rest in between feedings and diaper changes to be ready for the day. I was finally able to eat and enjoyed every meal they gave me.
We also changed rooms to a bigger one. The first one had a beautiful view of Key Biscayne but the second one is almost double the size and we can fit more visitors :)

Here are the pictures we have so far - We are supposed to stay at the hospital until Monday and from there go to Monica's.
